ACTION|| Kasarani Nationals

On the 22nd of November we went to perform at the Kasarani Stadium Nationals. I really did my best and was able to get 1st place in Tripple Jump, 3rd place in 200m, 1st place in 4x400m and 2nd place in 4x100m. I had a lot of fun and was able to develop my technic a lot. The stress that I had before every race pushed me to perform such times.  I also broke two school records and one meet record. I think this meet was a great way to end the season. After this meet I feel ready for the next season and I now know what I need to improve in all my events in order to get even greater results in the Seychelles international meet.

ACTION|| Peponi Warm-up Meet

We again had a friendly invitational meet on the Kasarani warm-up track, organized by the Peponi school. For this meet only two athlete per event were allowed to be registered from the same school. There was also only two age categories, U15 and U19. I ran the 200m, 4x400m and 4x100m. It really was a great experience. Compared to the ISK meet  three weeks before, I ran those races a lot better and that showed in my times. For the 200m I ran a 28.75s, which is my personal best so far and which is also only 0.72s away from the school record. For the relays, the 4x100m was interesting as two of the runners had never ran a proper 4x100m and did not know about the hand-offs. We were able to run a 58.52s which is not so bad compared to my time  the last season 54.67s . The 4x400m was not really a challenged as all four athletes were 400m runners and had been doing track for at least 2 years. After this meet I feel more confident and think I will be able to perform well for the Nationals at Kasarani (again) on the 22nd of November.

SERVICE|| Operation Smile

I have not been blogging about Operation Smile, as for the past few weeks we had only been talking about the ‘future’ of the clubs and voting for the next heads of the club. Last Wednesday we had a bake sale, as the wrist bands we ordered last year finally arrived. I was not really sure about how successful this sale would be, as we did not really advertise for it. The vast majority of the club participated by either baking (amazing goods), or by selling the food. We had the stand for activity and lunch, and sold more than 100 wrist bands, and all of the bake goods. Since me and Callie ( another member of the group) had free block after lunch we decided to go and sell whatever was left at the MS. This was a real success, all the kids rushed for the cool aid and bought some 50 more bands.
I think that the Operation Smile club, is now making its way through the number of clubs in ISK, and we will have a great year seeing how dedicated everybody is, and the ideas everyone is coming up with.

ACTION|| Last Tennis Match

Last week we played our last match of the season against Rosslyn.  For this match the coach decided to change around the teams and have fun and try to win some games. On the practice before the match, the coach tried out different double partners, and I ended up playing with Carolina, against Sahil and Kushay. The score was very surprising, 4-1 to us, while Kushay and Sahil are two of our best players. After that the team decided to have me and Carolina play doubles number two for the Rosslyn match. I had already played this Rosslyn doubles pair and had lost with Moira. I however knew what their game play was like. They both have very sliced serves, and hit hard balls to the person at the volley. Considering that Carolina does not have very strong shots, but is extremely consistent, I thought the best thing for me to do was to try shots and hit winners when possible. I did lose some points, but surprised the opponent with some hits. Carolina served very well, and won most her serves 40-0. Overall we wont 6-4. It was a very interesting and fun game to play as both pairs had more or less the same level. We played some net points, and both tried to play offense and defense. For a last game I was very happy, and learnt that in doubles the two best players are not always the best doubles pair as the most important part of doubles pairing is to put people who have ‘matching’ games.

ACTION|| Track and Field Kasarani Friendly Meet

This weekend we had the ISK Kasarani meet. It was a meet only against ourselves but the outcome was very helpuful. I must admit that I did not really understand the point of only competing against our school, but after a few race I realized the level of sport we had. I was impressed to see some of the athlete compete. In practice they did not seem to be any outstandingly good, but on the competition day one of them broke a school record and won all of her races with amazing times. I do not feel like I performed at my best, due to me lack of training. I have not been able to get back to the shape I was in, at the end of last year’s season. What I think is affecting my results is my high lack of endurance. As I have stopped doing swimming, my endurance has dropped and for this reasons my 400m was quite disappointing. On the other hand, I did get my personal best results in my field events. I re-broke the school record for shot put, which was 8.12m and which is now 8.70 meters

ACTIVITY || Tennis West Nairobi

We won our first match of the league last week. We played at home against West Nairobi and I won my match 6-0. It was interesting to play against this school, as I realized that I had more fun playing schools where I lost than playing this match. I think we have really developed as a team over the past few months. Personally I have been able to play with more tactics, but I am still lacking of confidence and regularity in my play. The next match we are playing is against RVA. This will be a tough match as they are all very consistent and hard hitting players. I will like all matches try and perform my best, have fun and improve on any strokes I can.
